The Tapestry - Creation (Genesis 1)

This week we look at his statements to the church of Laodicea. Jesus communicates a harsh message to a wealthy city. While they are physically prosperous, he reminds them they are spiritually impoverished.

But Jesus reminds them who holds the keys to the kingdom (him).

This week we look at his statements to the church of Sardis. This was a church known for its energy and exuberance. It had a reputation for being alive, but Jesus instead labels it as dead/asleep.

They were abounding in love, but had empowered false teachers in their communities.

Here we see that even though there was faithfulness amidst persecution, they had given positions of influence to false teachers who rationalized assimilation with the Roman government.

This week we look at his statements to the church of Smyrna. The Christians in this city continued to hold fast to the faith in light of intense persecution. While martyrdom is not something a 21st century American regularly would face, can we learn from their faith as it pertains to suffering and slander in our lives?

This week we look at his statements to the church of Ephesus. By all account, the church in Ephesus is thriving, Jesus sees their works, their toil, their discernment. But his critique of them is that they have lost the love they had at first; both for God and their neighbor.
