This week we look at the human nature of Jesus as realized in his miraculous birth. The co-eternal person of the Trinity took on human flesh and was born of a virgin. In some circles this is called the incarnation. Jesus left his place of privilege on high and moved into the neighborhood (in the words of Eugene Peterson).

This shows the gospel going to the ends of the earth by going to the seat of the Roman Empire. Luke leaves the narrative on a cliffhanger, inviting us to write the next chapter of the book of Acts.

He utilizes the spiritual objects of worship revered by the Athenians in order to build bridges for the gospel of Jesus Christ.

James, the brother of John is killed by Herod Agrippa, Peter is arrested and is next on the chopping block. In this passage we see the church's earnest prayers answered by God as Peter is delivered from jail. This passage can teach us about earnest prayer, but also the faith that should follow such prayers.
